Your Goliad Summer Bucket List

Updated: Sep 5, 2022

School is letting out, temperatures are heating up and it’s officially Summertime in Texas! Overflowing with history and South Texas charm, we invite you to discover, or even rediscover, Goliad. Below is a list of authentic experiences to get you started!

Hike underneath the stars “The stars at night are big and bright…” Take an evening walk with one of our park Rangers at Goliad State Park and Historic Site. The park is offering family-friendly programming all Summer with adventures customized to the Goliad experience.

Journey deep into the rich history of Texas With over a dozen historical sites and 50+ historical markers, someone will have to remind you what year it actually is by the time you head back home. From historic battlegrounds to holy missions, Goliad is a treat for history buffs. For a more interactive experience, enjoy living history each Wednesday in June and July at the Presidio La Bahia for “Wayback Wednesdays”.

Stroll the streets of a small town square

Who doesn’t love an idyllic downtown square? Discover both history and beauty as you leisurely stroll along our self-guided Historic Downtown Walking Tour. Peek into shops, enjoy a sweet treat, take a few pics…all at your own pace.

Discover the beauty of an (almost hidden) historical gem

Built in 1936, the Berclair Mansion-located in Goliad County-is considered to be the largest steel strand house in the US. If visiting early this Summer, you can even help preserve this beauty by enjoying a little Texas BBQ for a good cause at the annual Berclair Boots and BBQ.

Two-step the night away

After your bbq-eating, keep those boots on and scoot on over to the second oldest dance hall in Texas, Schroeder Dance Hall, for a little Texas Two-Step.

Paddle the San Antonio River

With less crowds to fight and more nature to enjoy, spending the day on the Goliad Paddling Trail is an awesome idea for water enthusiasts (be sure to check weather conditions and Park Alerts prior to getting on the water). With over 6 miles to paddle, the trail is easy enough for beginners and a great family option.

Reconnect with nature and enjoy a South Texas sunset

Your phone will work out here but with so much peace available, why on earth would you want to spoil it? Goliad offers charming B&Bs and relaxing retreats to help you truly vacate your stresses during your vacation. For a bit more breathing space country-side, consider the Barnhart Q5 Ranch and Nature Retreat in Goliad County.

Savor the flavors of Goliad

Authentic Tex-Mex, award-winning bbq and unexpected soul-satisfying breakfast dishes will round out your visit (and your belly) nicely! One absolute must before you head home is a bowl of fresh Cream of Jalapeno soup from Blue Quail Deli. This liquid gold may not skimp on the calories—or the heat--but it sure is tasty any time of year.

Have a chat with Mrs. Lynda

When it comes to southern hospitality, Mrs. Lynda knows how to make our guests feel right at home in Goliad. Always interested in where you came from and ready to welcome you in with a smile, Mrs. Lynda will be more than happy to fill you up on Goliad’s eventful history. Stop in for a visit at the Market House Museum Tuesdays - Fridays, 10 am - 3 pm.
